[4/22/23] #25 - Some Random Thoughts. Cheers!
By Eddie Walls
[4/22/23] I've decided to take in every playoff game that I can either in person or from the 6 seat of a poker table.
Very few things give me more joy than watching fans lose their minds in glee as they did Wednesday night at Ball Arena. I go to a lot of games and concerts.
I try to take in a lot of what others experience but most of the nuggets games I attended this year were blowouts and there was very little energy in the building so this was exhilarating as a spectator.
I also don't personally think there's anything better than Hubie Brown being absolutely floored after 50 years or whatever by the shooting display of a Celtics/Hawks game. Cracks me up to no end. Bets or not it's a joy this time of year.
Speaking of betting. I don't think there's anything harder than blindly following someone for me personally. When I say this I don't mean RAS in college hoops but the random guy just blasting winners left and right. I wonder how much my skeptical point of view has cost me lifetime.
I once turned down a offer to trade my college football for a originators AAA baseball in 2017. He was working so hard but I just couldn't give him my accounts for no good reason. He won a ton & guess who didn't need my college football next May? I trust the screen but not a man sitting in front of me?
I write this from seat 8. A married couple who plays every weekend is here. Completely wealthy, polite, well dressed, Vietnamese & own nail salons throughout Colorado. Neither win often, if I had to guess they have a 100k a year poker hobby.
I often wonder what there drives home are like. Do they argue, criticize each other or do they laugh hysterically at guys going on tilt & losing their minds over a few thousand dollars?
I had a conversation with a new bettor about how much to tip counter people. If you are insecure over how much you've been tipping, there's a reason.
I have a friend who thinks the NBA will have a scandal in the coming weeks.
If you were unaware Kwahi Leonard was listed out very surprisingly Thursday afternoon prior to game 3 of their round one playoff series.
The news leaked and the number bleed onto to the screen. Something that happens hundreds of time in a season but the difference is the playoffs allow excessive limits and someone could have gotten 7 figures hypotheticaly down with this info.
I personally think he's borderline insane with the thinking that the NBA is going to acknowledge people are using injury information to place bets.
The entire league is questionable to play on a nightly basis and you have players on super max contracts playing 45 games in a good year (Beal, Zion) while half the gambling population is playing same game parlays rooted in overs with players unlikely to play or give max effort.
I'm not sure the league is up to date on the fact Kwahi missed the game let alone how it affected the point spread.
Another league who's ridiculously trying to collect a bag but distance itself from gambling is the NFL. In what world is 40+ accusations of sexual assault less punishable than betting on a NFL game?
I don't even care that the league is in bed with every sports book in the world, it sends such a weird message to everyone.
The draft is Thursday. I'm further confused than ever. If your unaware I have never gotten a QB right. I am known for calling Josh Allen the worst qb ever taken in the 1st rd & telling every Bronco fan that Paxton Lynch was the real deal.
Levis & Richardson are possible top 5 picks!? Based on above opinions alone they will be worthy of hall of fame debates in 8 years, bet with this info every week accordingly.
In all seriousness I've been doing a little bit of draft research & it's clear that NIL & the portal have changed everything & how I view certain programs.
Northwestern has 2 first round draft picks? Dieon isn't coming with a reality show & 7 transfers after a 1 win season which apparently NFL talent was in place.
It's a little scary that as good of a coach as Fitzgerald is and the talent he was able to accrue that a ceiling is what the bottom looked like prior to NIL and a busy portal.
Academic focused programs like Stanford, Northwestern, Ga tech are falling behind and fast. I have no solution but I don't think it was clear to me that this draft might be the last we see a NW, Stanford, Rutgers etc first rounder for some time.
On the other hand a third of the first round of draft is UGA, Bama and Ohio State athletes. There will be 13000 players on FBS rosters and 10 of the 30 of the most gifted players that are available will come from the same 3 schools to lead in NFL drafted players since 2012 apparently.
Pretty sure the term, ' high value dog" is also known as dead money in championship futures which is a bit sad if looking at what college hoops has established in comparison.
I watch a few documentaries a week and listen to a new album everyday this time of year. I also love a great tv series.
I recommend the documentary 2nd chance Showtime Tv series worth binging Dave Hulu/FX Album Arlo parks
I think Giannis injury is more serious than they're telling us. I don't know it matters...yet.
Also remember that... Good bets feel good when you make them.
Replies and conversation are welcome on all topics.
I feel bad that I know nothing about NHL as I know the playoffs are incredible for so many of you. Anyone with a future or want to steer me into a good series to watch besides the Avs I would certainly welcome.
That's all I have this week. Thank you so much for the space as always and good luck to all of you. Your friend, Eddie
