#37 - College football sucks

College football sucks
Let's face it. It isn't even remotely the same sport that it was even 5 years ago.
It's part sport but mostly just a network event now where players and schools play hoping to make enough money to become relevant to make enough revenue to make the (pay bump) jump to a bigger (TV deal) conference.
The players play with the goal of making it to a bigger and better network deal and that's not new and good for them!
Florida states kids were just told that despite winning every game and pretty handidly they're network wasn't good enough for the big stage.
Before I go any further. Unless you are a Alabama Alumni or booster are you really fucking excited to watching Bama in the playoff again?
Why is it so predetermined that in August you have 6-7 teams who are actual contenders. If that's going to be the case, can we find someone who smiles when they win and hasn't lobbied to change the game to benefit him?
Saban isn't a compelling story at this point but that's what we will watch. 10 people his age, who look just like him and they have decided Bama's just that dang good.
Who cares if Alabama wins another? How is it compelling at this point? The schools getting 84% of 5*s win more, schools with 7 times more NIL collective than the average are capable of winning? Mind blown revelation.
They'll change rules, tear apart conferences, ruin all rivalries, give awards with true biase and absolutely get rid of any intrigue in lower middle to lower class FBS football. End rant
Alright so let's talk about the highlights of 2023 college football as if it was last week and none of this happened. Let's face it we won't remember in 2 years when Boise (or whoever) goes 11-1 and isn't in the 12 team playoff because FSU went 8-4 but only lost to the top 4 SEC opponents.
I'll treat this like the NBA and break it into all 10 conferences. Most improved player Coach of the year MVP

There were so many great moments throughout the season.
I have to tell you I think I covered in a way I'll never do so again. I had Wyoming-2.5 vs App state. Look that one up. I took some doozies as well. Boise vs CSU hail Mary and Tulsa-3 vs Charlotte come to mind right away.
Overall personally I think I got what I put into the season and that's all you can ask for in any realm of life. Felt fair if nothing else.
The anamolies of early season wins and losses determining so much for so many teams and bettors.
Another season almost in the books. Bowls are lined but the story of those is never complete until closer to kickoff more and more it seems. You think with how profitable they are for all involved theyd throw some cash at the winning team. Let's get some max effort here and there:)
Handicapping gets a little more exciting for me every season if being truthful.
I feel like I'm learning so much by younger guys I interact with and am more comfortable with my RAS guys every season. I work alone in NBA mostly and it feels like a perfect balance.
Please feel free to interact with me here and tell me what conference, players I was way off on.
I hope you are incredibly well. Thank you as always for the space. Your friend, Eddie
